ARTIST STATEMENT
Throughout my life, painting has been a consistent outlet for questioning my relationship with religion and faith. I have loved god and hated god but always end up finding security in the idea of a world bigger than myself. By using abstract forms and focusing on light, I am trying to make religion more accessible. The world is a scary place right now, and I want religion to once again be a place for solace and community rather than division and discrimination.
The process is a long one and involves building up layers of paint to convey meaning through covering up previous imagery. Using recycled furniture and wooden boxes, I play with the idea of revival and renewal. I have recently transitioned from oils to acrylics and I find that the bright colors the paint brings further enhances the powerful feeling I want to garner with each work.
